Licia Henneberg is sophomore at the University of Kentucky majoring in Psychology and Sociology and minoring in French. She is from Morehead, Kentucky, and enjoys playing the violin, painting, and crafting in her free time. Licia is beginning her second year in the lab and plans to continue focusing her research on Appalachian students. She plans to pursue a career in law after graduation.
Mayson Spillman is a junior at the University of Kentucky pursuing a degree in Psychology and minors in Math and Political Science. She is also taking Russian at UK. She plans to go on to get a PhD in School Psychology. She is from Dallas, Texas and enjoys reading, listening to music, and volunteering with the Carnegie Center in Lexington. She is a part of Alpha Phi Omega at UK. This is her first semester in the P20 Motivation and Learning Lab.
Shelby Vinsand is a sophomore at the University of Kentucky majoring in Psychology and minoring in criminology. She is from Crestwood, Kentucky and enjoys spending time with her friends, listening to music and exploring Lexington! She is involved in discipleship through CSF, the campus ministry. This is Shelby’s first semester in the P20 lab, and she is excited to gain research experience!
Charis Ebikwo is a senior at the University of Kentucky. She is originally from Nigeria and is majoring in Psychology. This is her first semester with P20lab. She enjoys going out with her friends and family, listening to music and traveling and she is involved with UK’s Mental Health Peer Advocate Program. After graduation, she hopes to go on to grad school to get a Masters’s and/or PhD and become a therapist. She one day hopes to start a private faith-based counseling center.
Abby Karazsia is a senior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Psychology and minoring in Criminology. This is her first year with the P20 lab and she is looking forward to getting started. She enjoys music, cooking and baking, and spending time with her friends. After graduating with her bachelors, Abby would like to pursue a masters in Secondary Education.
Olivia Huffman is a 4th year student at the University of Kentucky pursuing a major in Psychology in hopes of becoming a sports psychologist. She is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and loves traveling, hiking, reading books, and listening to music. Olivia is a member of the Swimming and Diving team here at UK where she swims sprint freestyle and backstroke. This is her 3rd year being affiliated with the P20 Motivation and Learning Lab.
Lucy Hargis is a junior at the University of Kentucky pursuing a degree in Psychology. She hopes to go on and get a PhD and work with children as a counseling psychologist. She is from Lexington, Kentucky and enjoys reading, traveling, hanging out with friends, and music. One of her passions is working with children through mentoring programs here in Lexington and through the University of Kentucky’s DanceBlue marathon and committee. This will be her first semester in the P20 lab and she is very excited to learn more about research and to get to work with the local community.
Casey Ott is a sophomore studying Psychology. She hopes to go into educational psychology or community development with a focus on young adults. She is originally from Conway, Arkansas. She is a member of the golf team here at UK. She enjoys hiking, hanging out with friends, listening to the latest music, and being active. She is passionate about volunteering and serving others.
Kaitlyn Stevens is a senior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. She is from Ashland, Kentucky and loves napping, hanging out with friends, and exploring coffee shops in Lexington. This is her third semester in the P20 lab and she is excited to be back and gain more research experience! After graduation, she is attending medical school and hopes to one day become a pediatrician.
Rest Aliu is a junior majoring in Psychology on the pre-medicine track. Rest is originally from Nigeria but has lived in many places throughout her life. Rest enjoys keeping her schedule busy and has leadership roles in her sorority and campus ministry. Her passion is to create and learn, and she tries to implement that in every aspect of her life. This is her first semester at the P20 lab and she hopes to gain valuable knowledge on research so that she can use it to better her community.
Joslyn Porter is a sophomore at the University of Kentucky majoring in Psychology and anticipates to attend law school post graduation. Joslyn is from Louisville, but considers California her home as she was born and raised there until age 16. Joslyn enjoys spending her free time with friends, working out, cooking, being outdoors, or sitting down with a good book and a warm cup of tea. Joslyn is also involved in the international community on campus through her campus ministry, CSF. She loves getting to know the many students and families who have traveled the world to come to UK and is passionate about making them feel welcome! As a first semester P20 lab member, she is excited to join the team and start engaging and gaining research experience.
Tori Abell is a Sophomore at the University of Kentucky. She is a Psychology major with a Sociology minor and has plans to receive a certificate for diversity and inclusion studies. She was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and has a crazy big and blended family. She grew up with her sister and half-brother. Then, both her parents remarried, and she gained 7 step siblings. She loves hanging out with friends, working out, and exploring new food places around Lexington. She is involved in the campus ministry, CSF, and is on the international team! She is so excited to be a part of the P20 lab in order to gain knowledge and research experience on the topics of motivation and learning. She hopes to attend graduate school in order to become a school psychologist!
Carly Coleman is in her 3rd year of undergrad majoring in psychology and business management with a minor in Spanish. Her plans after graduation are to attend graduate school in a clinical psychology program with a specialization with adolescents. Kelsey Corcoran is a senior Psychology major at the University of Kentucky. She is originally from the Chicago suburbs in Illinois. She will be graduating from UK in December 2018 and hopes to begin a specialist degree in School Psychology next fall. Ultimately she would love to end up working in an elementary school. This is Kelsey’s third semester in the lab and through her previous semesters she has developed a love for qualitative data as well as a wide range of research skills and experiences.
Grace Huber is in her final semester at the University of Kentucky, pursuing a double major in Psychology and Spanish. Grace has spent the last semester in Dr. Christia Brown’s lab doing research on children’s attitudes towards members of different races. A few of her research interests include the development of prejudice, the effect of interracial friendship on attitudes, interventions to improve self-efficacy in teachers working at low income schools, and the effect of positive peer influence on educational success. Grace has thoroughly enjoyed learning Spanish and getting involved with the immersion programs in the Lexington area these last few years and hopes to continue to be able to to this while pursuing higher education after graduation.
